The cost of entering for a Cambridge English exam depends on which exam you take. Please look at the exam dates and fees overview.

We cannot advise you to which exam you should take. The following information should help when deciding which exam is right for you:
Can native English speakers take Cambridge English exams?
Yes. Although Cambridge English exams are designed for non-native speakers of English, no language-related restrictions apply.
Is there any age limit for taking Cambridge English exams?
There is no age limit on our exams. Candidates of any age are welcome to take the exams, although Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) contains some texts and tasks which are likely to be more suitable for candidates with a certain degree of maturity in their handling of abstract ideas and concepts.

Can I take a test online?
There are computer-based versions of some of the Cambridge ESOL exams. Visit our Register page for more information.
Do I have to start with the lowest level of the Cambridge Examinations?
No, it is up to you to choose which level of examination suits your needs and knowledge.
I have a specific physical or learning difficulty. Can I take a Cambridge English exam?

Do I need to take a course if I want to take a Cambridge ESOL exam?
No, it is not necessary to take a course. It is up to the candidates where and how they prepare for the exams.
Does the British Council offer languages courses in Croatia?
No, the British Council Croatia does not offer language courses. For English language courses in Croatia use School Finder. For accredited English language courses in the UK please go to Education UK.

Where can I prepare for Cambridge ESOL exams?
Familiarising yourself with the Cambridge exams is an important part of your exam preparation. You can improve your performance by learning exam techniques and getting used to the times for each of the papers. You can do this by practicing with free past papers and using other online preparation materials.
If you feel more comfortable taking face to face classes use School Finder to find a nearby school that offers your exam level.
A number publishers have indicated to Cambridge ESOL that they offer materials related to the Cambridge exams. You can find book titles on the Cambridge ESOL website.
Is there any online Exams preparation material available?
British Council hosts a wide range of (free) websites to improve your level of English. And there are numerous smarthphone applications available. Try our digital learning materijals.

Can I still register for a Cambridge exam after the registration period?
It might be possible to register after the closing date. A late entry fee will be charged. We advise you to contact our Exams team for further guidance.
Can arrangements be made for candidates with special needs?
Yes, it is possible to make arrangements with Cambridge ESOL for extra time, large print, or Braille. Poor spelling, due to dyslexia, is not taken into consideration.

Is it possible to be transferred from one session of a Cambridge exam to a different one?
No your entry is obligatory, so it cannot be transferred from one examination sitting to a later one or to a different examination.
What happens if I have to cancel my exam?
Each Cambridge ESOL examination session has a specific cancellation period. Refunds due to medical circumstances are accepted at any time, as long as you provide a medical certificate. If your request is accepted, the British Council will refund you the full fee less an administration charge.

How will I know the exact time and dates to sit my exam?
You will receive a confirmation email no later than 1 week after the registration closing date. Your timetable with further information about the exam location and start times will be sent by email 4 weeks before your exam.
If you have not received the confirmation email 1 week after our closing date, please contact British Council Croatia.
Where will my exam take place?
The timetable with address details of the exam venue will be sent by email to individually registered candidates 4 weeks prior to the exam. If you are registered through a school or Institute this information is sent to your school.
Route descriptions to the exam locations will also be published on our website 4 weeks before the exam. Please note that all British Council exam venues are easily accessible by public transport
What happens on the exam day?
Once you have arrived you will need to be registered. The exact location is indicated at the venue. Please make sure to arrive on time to allow yourself to accommodate. Don’t forget to bring a valid ID as this is essential for registration.
Exams are supervised and invigilated by trained staff, who will give you instructions and advise where appropriate.

Is the use of dictionaries allowed during Cambridge exams?
No. Any candidate using or attempting to use a dictionary or spell-checker will be disqualified.
What if I am ill on the exam day?
If candidates are unable to sit their exams due to medical reasons, or special family circumstances they may receive a 50% refund of the exam fee. All requests for refunds must be supported by a valid medical certificate and submitted no later than 7 days after the test.

When do I get my results?
Results are available around eight weeks after the exam. The exact date is on your Confirmation of Entry. If you haven’t received your results after ten weeks, please contact your British Council centre.
Candidates will be able to access their results on the Cambridge ESOL Results website.
How do I access my Cambridge ESOL results?
You can access your results online on the Cambridge ESOL results. You will need the secret number and ID number that was provided on you confirmation of entry to register first. Once registered you can access your result with your ID number and the password you created on registration.
When do I get my certificate?
If you enrolled through your teaching or language centre, the certificates will be sent there.
If you enrolled as a private candidate, we will send them by registered post to the address you gave when you registered.
I have missed one part of my exam, will I receive a grade?
According to the Cambridge ESOL regulations, individual paper performance is not given to those candidates with grade X (absent from part of the examination), or grade Z (absent from all of the examination).
I have failed my exam, can I apply for it again?
Yes, you can. You can register for an exam as many times as you wish. You will have to send us a complete application and pay the full fee again.
Is it possible to see what mistakes I made in my Cambridge exam?
No, because all question papers are sent to Cambridge ESOL in the UK. Candidates’ answers and other work done by the candidates as part of an examination remain the property of Cambridge ESOL and will not be released to candidates, schools or administering centres.
How long is my certificate valid for?
A Cambridge ESOL certificate doesn’t ‘expire’, as it simply records your English competence on the date you took the exam. In practice, academic institutions, professional bodies and employers will all have their own rules on how long an ESOL certificate remains valid – a ten year old certificate will not say much about your current level of English! As a general rule, it is not possible to guarantee the validity of a certificate that’s more than two years old; you may be required to take another ESOL exam to demonstrate your English competence after this time.
I lost my certificate what can I do?
Cambridge ESOL has a special page for those who have lost their certificate. Please follow these specific guidelines to find out if and how copies can be issued.
We are a school and would like to register a group of candidates.
We can do group registrations for secondary schools, language schools and other educational institutions. Please use the block registration or our online registration system for group registrations. The school will receive an invoice for all candidates registered with the block registration form or you can choose for individual payment by the candidate to the British Council. All correspondence relating to the examinations will be between the British Council and the school’s administrator only.
We are a school / institution, can we organise the exams on our premises?
Yes. There is a minimum number of 70 candidates in order to organise an exam on your premises. Please contact your British Council Exam Centre at least 3 months before the exam to make arrangements.
I am an English language teacher; I need guidance on how to teach Cambridge ESOL exams?
Cambridge offers you a wide range of support through their teacher website.

How can I make a suggestion or lodge a complaint?
In the event a candidate wishes to make a complaint or suggestion regarding the administration service provided before and/or after the date of the exam, this should be sent to the British Council using the comments and complaints form. The British Council aims to respond to complaints within ten working days of receipt.
If any candidate is adversely affected by any incident during the exam which they consider may have a negative impact on their exam performance or the final exam result, they should present a detailed written description of the incident to their Regional Exam Centre. British Council will immediately submit details of the incident reported to Cambridge ESOL.
